Cumberland and OCL
So now the mayor wants to create a position in town that will find things for kids to do when they're not in school. He wants to pay this guy $60,000 plus benefits, plus an office. Basically a cost of $100,000 a year when the town can't even afford computers, new text books or even clean water. I sent him and the council emails. We'll see what they do tonight.

3200 yards at swim this morning!
Never having done more than 2500 yards at a time made this morning's workout interesting. We'd talked about wanted to do more distance, and I sure got it today. I started with a 600 yard freestyle warmup, then a quick 200 yard kickboard. Then the fun started.
Do 100 yards on 2 minutes. As many as I can do. As soon as I finish one in more than 2 minutes, I take a 20 second rest (which turned into a minute fifteen) and then see how many I can do in 2:15. I never thought I'd do more than 3 or 4 in the two minutes. I did 10. Then, I started getting bored and running out of time with the 2:15s, and quit after 12. Finished with a 200 yard cool down. The two sets of 100s equaled 1.25 miles. Not bad. The same distance as a half ironman. Not that I'm going to do that distance any time soon. I do want to do the Save the Bay, 1.7 mile swim though, in July.

Skype
In the interest of saving money, I was looking at Skype. People raved about it last year, when it was free. It isn't any more, and now, you can only make free calls from skype to other skype customers. It now costs money to call land lines. And for someone to call you from a land line ain't cheap either. You need to buy "Skypein" for about $60 a year (it's priced in euros), which yeah, is cheaper than my current phone at about $20 a month, but it's also in beta mode, and they clearly say you can't get 911 service with skype, so you need a phone anyway. So what's the point? Let me know when you go back to free and/or you have 911 service.

Celebrating PI day
Here at Brown, and CIS, and Systems & Services, we'll be celebrating "PI Day" on March 14, at 1:59 pm. We originally thought we'd only eat PIe, but why not PIzza too? We aren't the first to celebrate it, but it'll be fun anyway.
I do like the idea of having square PIes, because pi*r2 (pie are squared).
